After 2 days of marching through the northern Sacramento valley Alex, Mary and hundreds of supporters of disabled rights reached the steps of the State capital. In February of 2011 Mary, driven by years of budget cuts in California began to fear that the Lanterman Act would be stripped. The Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Act was passed in 1977. It gives people with developmental disabilities the rights to services and supports that enable them to live an Independent normal life. Mary organized a grassroots march with caretakers and their disabled loved ones from her Yuba City home, 40 miles from the state capital Sacramento, under the name Mommy Tsunami.
